Campus History

Morales Elementary opened its doors in 1992, along with two other elementary schools with the same floor plan, Turner and Matthys. The campus was built to relieve overcrowding in schools on the northside of Pasadena. The school is named in honor of Felix H. Morales, an entrepreneur, small business owner, radio personality and civic leader. His radio station, KVLV, “La Voz Latina,” became the first Spanish-language station to cover news in this area. His daughter, Christina Morales, is the state representative for Texas House District 145.

Shortly after the campus opened in the 1990s, enrollment hovered between 750-800 students. Over the years, due to changing boundary lines, the introduction of middle schools and other shifts, the enrollment has decreased. Now, Morales serves around 500 students in prekindergarten through fourth grade, as well as three self-contained special education classrooms.

Morales is located in an old, well-established area and now has served two generations of students. The campus prides itself on being a community hub and forming partnerships with families and businesses in the area.
